Executive Summary
Challenge
Terveystalos' Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system was not serving the company's changed processes. The used technology stack was also monolithic and therefore not viable for renewal. Thus, a entirely new EMR system was required which would be future-proof.
Due to the project not being launched, no graphical elements regarding the project will be shown.
Role
I joined the team as a UX/UI Design consultant, my primary responsibilities were developing the atomic Design System and creating prototypes based on User Research. I collaborated with Product Owners and Subject Matter Experts to create high-fidelity prototypes, I was also taking part of designing the Design System and writing documentation for components. We executed Design Sprints in parallel with software development teams. The deliverables were functional prototypes validated with robust data, handed over to development teams, which were used to create over 80+ user flows in Figma prototypes. My documentation facilitated developer hand-off and resulted in reduced interaction errors. I received positive feedback for quickly acclimating to the project and assuming ownership of a large-scale undertaking.
Outcome
Although, the project was ultimately discontinued due to redefining of scope towards a more lightweight approach, this project allowed me to refine my skills in working in large development teams, stakeholder communication and agile design processes.
Despite the project ending, the lessons learned continue to shape my approach, equipping me to design solutions that are not only user-centric but also resilient in the face of rapidly changing environments.
